Lo stesso Signore Gesù proclama: «Questo è il mio corpo». Prima della benedizione delle parole celesti la parola indica un particolare elemento. Dopo la consacrazione ormai designa il corpo e il sangue di Cristo. Egli stesso lo chiama suo sangue. Prima della consacrazione lo si chiama con altro nome. Dopo la consacrazione è detto sangue. seeing so great a grace, exhorts her sons, exhorts her to run to close to the sacraments, saying, "Eat, friends, drink, inebriatevi, dear" (CT 5, 1). Then what we eat, what we drink, the Holy Spirit tells me specified elsewhere by the Prophet saying: "Taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man who takes refuge in him" (Ps. 33, 9). In that sacrament is Christ, because it is the body of Christ. food is therefore not a physical but a spiritual nourishment. In order to even the Apostle says of her figure: "Our fathers all ate the same spiritual food" (1 Cor 10, 3). Infatti il corpo di Dio è un corpo spirituale, il corpo di Cristo è il corpo dello spirito divino, perché Cristo è spirito, come leggiamo: Cristo Signore è spirito davanti al nostro volto (cfr. Lam 4, 20 secondo i LXX). Questo nutrimento rinsalda il nostro cuore e questa bevanda «allieta il cuore dell'uomo» (Sal 103, 15) come ha ricordato il profeta.
